Project Status & Planning Updates
The committee reviewed project timelines, procurement goals, and logistical adjustments designed to keep major modernizations moving forward:
- Grand Mountain School: Additional coordination and planning sessions are being scheduled for the upcoming gymnasium project, with a target goal to procure a contractor sometime this fall.
- North Preschool Operational Continuity: Construction on the north side of the building will continue into the fall term. To maintain student safety and operational continuity, classes will temporarily run out of the south wing. Once the north wing is completed, school operations will flip to the new space so renovation work can begin on the south wing.
- District Capacity Support: To accommodate North Preschool’s total student capacity during this heavy construction period, Webster will host four additional preschool classes. These classrooms will return to North Preschool upon total project completion.
- On-Schedule Progress: District tracking confirms that updates at both Pinello and Venetucci continue to progress on schedule.
Construction Progress Updates
Progress reports highlighted active site work, material deliveries, and mechanical infrastructure upgrades across multiple campuses:
- Roofing & Site Logistics: The partial roof replacement at Sunrise Elementary is pacing on schedule and is currently halfway finished. Additionally, the ordered storage units (PODS) have been successfully delivered to both Grand Mountain and Sproul to support active construction.
- HVAC Modernization: HVAC updates are actively underway in the Widefield High School science department. Concurrently, the installation of the new HVAC electronic control systems at Mesa Ridge is nearing final completion.
North Preschool Renovation & Structural Mitigation
In line with the committee's planned focus on North Preschool, detailed structural updates and environmental remediation efforts were shared:
- Gymnasium Reconfiguration: Structural demolition of the gymnasium is complete. The old stage area has been entirely removed, and work is underway to build two new classrooms in the vacated space.
- Pest Mitigation & Framing Upgrades: During demolition of the front office, termite tracks and wood framing damage were discovered. Demolition crews are actively removing all wood framing and replacing it with metal stud walls and high-impact drywall, systematically eliminating organic pest food sources.
- Facility-Wide Safeguards: Demolition in the north wing is also underway. Although no visible termite damage was found in this sector, metal-stud framework upgrades will be used consistently throughout the entire build. Furthermore, a perimeter chemical barrier system will be installed post-remodel to deter future entry.
- Grounds & Handover Timelines: Exterior grading, drainage planning, and ADA-compliant landscaping are actively progressing across the campus grounds and playground area. The front office renovations remain firmly on track to be ready for use this August.
