Widefield School District 3 (WSD3) students showcased their STEM skills at the recent First LEGO League (FLL) El Paso Qualifier, held at Janitell Jr. High. Twelve of the twenty-eight teams competing at the event were from WSD3, demonstrating the district’s strong commitment to STEM education.
The FLL Challenge event, designed for students in grades 4-8, requires teams to innovate solutions to real-world problems, design and program robots, and embody core values like teamwork and gracious professionalism.
While all WSD3 teams performed admirably, several teams excelled in various categories. The highlight of the event was the advancement of three teams to the State Championship, set to take place on December 7th in Denver.
This is the most significant number of teams that the District has sent to the State Championship. Congratulations to the coaches and their teams!
Innovation Project:
- 1st Place Innovation Project Award: Submerging Marine Cougars from King Elementary
Robot Design:
- 1st Place Robot Design Award: JMCA Mountain Lions from James Madison Charter Academy
Core Values:
- 1st Place Core Values Award: Pandazon from French Elementary
- 2nd Place Core Values Award: Talbott Tigersharks
Peer Review Award:
It is important to note that JMCA also won the new Peer Review Award. This award is given to a team based on their positive impact on a team at the event.
- The Webster Marine Rescuers nominated the JMCA team because its members had provided kind and helpful feedback.
Advancing to the State Competition:
Each of the following teams is advancing to State and will compete on December 7th in Denver:
- Pandazon from French Elementary
- JMCA Mountain Lions from James Madison
- Submerging Marine Cougars from King Elementary
This is the most significant number of teams that we have sent to the State Championship. We are so proud of these coaches and their teams. We are impressed by their hard work, innovation, creativity, and dedication to gracious professionalism!
