Laura Smith, a science teacher and athletic trainer at Widefield High School, is being recognized by the Red Cross for her heroic efforts during a soccer game.
On October 5, 2023, a soccer player went down on the field and stopped breathing during a junior varsity game between Widefield and Harrison. Laura immediately responded, performed CPR, and used a defibrillator to save the player's life.
Laura will be officially honored at the “Red Cross Heroes of the Year" on Saturday, March 16 at the Denver Fine Arts Center.
