Layla Shaw, senior at Mesa Ridge High School, holding a check for $200,000 for the Navy ROTC scholarship.

Laylah S., a Mesa Ridge High School senior, devoted four years to NJROTC, discovering her passion for leadership, community service, and mentoring younger cadets. Her dedication earned her a Navy ROTC scholarship through the Individual Selection Reserve, making her the first ISR recipient in her seven-state region. She plans to major in aerospace engineering—combining math and art—and serve as a naval officer. Embracing challenges and innovation, she hopes to contribute to cutting-edge research in the field. Fueled by her admiration for aviation and exploration, Laylah anticipates traveling extensively to broaden her horizons. Beyond NJROTC, she excelled in cross country, played tennis throughout high school, and enjoys painting. Looking ahead, she will draw on her travels, leadership experiences, and education to build a strong foundation for her family and foster personal growth, continuing to inspire others along the way.
