Each year, WSD3 hosts its own homegrown coding and robotics competition called Coding in Action. This year's Coding in Action theme was Stranger Codes. This event is for elementary students in 3rd-5th grades.
Here is what the competition looked like by the numbers:
- 28 teams from the 10 participating schools.
- 104 student participants.
- 16 coaches and 15 parent volunteers that directly supported the teams.
- 5 coding and robotics events: Arduino, Code.org, Drones, Scratch, and Sphero. Students demonstrated their proficiency in each section to earn points.
- 3 overall winning teams:
- Demogorgons - 3rd place (French Elementary)
- Mall Shoppers - 2nd place (French Elementary)
- Stranger Cousins - 1st Place (King Elementary)
Teams demonstrated exceptional skill and there were multiple winners in several categories:
- Arduino - 11 teams scored 100% and tied for 1st place.
- Code.org - Three teams tied for 1st place.
- Drones - Seven teams scored 100% and tied for 1st place.
- Sphero - Seven teams earned 2nd place.
It was a fantastic day with incredible support from our volunteers (17) and parent volunteers(15).
We even had ten returning volunteers who had volunteered for multiple events during the last two years.
