Mrs. Liz Mathis
Hello, My name is Liz Mathis and I am a Title 1 Teacher at WSD3 Preschool. I have been married to the same man since 1991 and we have two beautiful daughters together. I am a late bloomer into the field of education. I was an Office Manager for a property management company for 12 years and decided to pursue my passion of teaching children. I graduated in 2007 with a Masters Degree in Elementary Education and started working for WSD3 in 2009 where I was hired as a Title 1 Teacher and have been working here ever since. I am excited to teach your little ones and look forward to many years to come in the WSD3 district. If you have any questions regarding Title 1 services at the Preschool, feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In Title, we cover the main components of reading, focusing on phonemic awareness (letter sounds, beginning sounds and rhyming), writing, letter recognition and print awareness (reading a book). We have learners in groups of 4-5 at a time for about 1/2 hour each. We make the activities interactive and short. If your child is in my groups, please sign up for the "Remind" app on the left side of my page in order to get notices in a timely manner.
We teach in the Handwriting Without Tears order of letters because it begins with the letters that are easiest to write. Most of our preschoolers have had very little, if any, experience writing. The following is the approximate order in which these letters will be covered:
Aug - Testing
Sept-Oct = L, C, F, E, H, T, I
Nov-Dec = U, O, Q,
Jan-Feb = G, J, D, P, B, R, K
Mar-Apr = A, V, M, N, W, X, Y, Z
May = Review & Testing
Anything you can do to support your child as they move through the school year is appreciated. Reading to your child will have the most impact academically. I am looking forward to another awesome school year!
