Students will build upon their literacy skills specifically in the areas of comprehension and vocabulary. Students will participate in whole-class, small group, and independent reading, and will be required to engage in class discussion to share their thoughts as readers. Focus will be on reading, writing, listening, speaking, and critical thinking. We will be using a new series, Pearson Realize. We will also read several novels throughout the year.

Students will have multiple opportunities to practice and refine literacy skills before they are assessed for a grade. Students have online access to their book and can read passages as many times as needed to reach comprehension and mastery. Homework will be assigned approximately once a week. Students are responsible for completing their assignments to the best of their ability and for turning them in on time. Assignment scores will be lowered 10% per day that they are late (not due to absence/illness). To access your students grade please check IC.
