Assessments Opt In
Earlier this month, the Colorado Department of Education submitted a waiver to the US Department of Education requesting to waive specific CMAS assessments for students in grades 3-8 and 11 (science only). Last Friday, March 26, 2021, we were informed that the waiver was approved in part. Here is what this means for your student:
- Grades 3, 5, & 7 will only be required to take the English Language Arts (ELA) tests
- Grades 4 & 6 will only be required to take the Math tests
- 8th grade students will take both Math and Science
- There will be no science test for 5th and 11th graders this year.
As part of the waiver approval, parents are given the right to opt their students into taking the other content area that is not required for their grade level. If you would like to have your student(s) complete the other content area assessments, please call your school's principal or assistant principal by the end of the school day on April 8, 2021 to discuss the scheduling of this test. You do not have to do anything if you do not want your student to take the other content assessments since it is an opt-in only process.
